The owner of a RV dealership was contacted by GPS “and asked if they could take a look at our business to see if we could be more profitable. I have to admit that I was a little reluctant about someone coming into my business, which I have lived for the past 40 years, and tell me what I could do to make more money.
I did know that we were not taking full advantage of the opportunities that were blessing our family business. I was ready to call it quits, I had been working 12 or 13 hours per day and 6 or 7 days a week. I felt that every day that I was getting further behind, and I was.
Talking with the GPS representative, he convinced me that I could work on my business, instead of working in my business, and be more profitable. The only thing that we needed was a plan.”
Process
The next Monday, a GPS analyst and consultant arrived and immediately, “rolled up their sleeves and went to work. We talked for a couple hours; they looked at our books and found several places that needed help. They got together and formulated a plan.
We are supporting 13 or 14 families and I didn’t want to let them down.” Although, strongly motivated, the client had some concern about the cost, as this was the time of the year that his dealership would usually be saving money to “hold us over for the slower winter months,” but, quick results from the GPS team reassured him.
“The first couple of weeks went by pretty fast and our plan was beginning to take shape. I could finally see that becoming organized and having a good business plan could work.”
Result
One of the most important elements was how the plan was customized to the client’s business and his team. The client commended his consultant for getting to know “each one of us and our personalities,” in order to formulate the new plan. “We are learning how to carry out this plan and fine tune it to us. My employees are excited to see the future for them seems brighter and more focused. I have my excitement back and I’m looking forward to next year.” Gene, President
